TRISH ROBERTS
Often inspired by the natural world; always excited by experimenting with new techniques and different forms of art making.
A printmaker and mixed media artist, Trish’s current work is driven by materiality and sustainability. Refined during her recently completed Master's programme, this approach shifts the initial emphasis from producing a finished image to celebrating the substrate itself, embracing often-overlooked resources - such as waste cardboard packaging - and using them as printmaking plates, thus moving my work beyond traditional expectations. Rather than having a finished image in mind, I'm engaged in a mutual dialogue with the substrate itself. The final prints reveal the rich history of their humble origins: the engineered, corrugated surfaces emerge through the press, while packaging tape and labels leave subtle, richly textured and unexpected marks. It’s exciting. The work invites viewers to reconsider ideas of worth, legacy, and the enduring power of the handmade. It has been a stimulating phase in my art, which underscores a core philosophy - that profound artistic value can emerge from humble and disregarded materials.
In 2025 my work gained awards at The Bath Society of Artists’ Open exhibition (Pegasus Art) and at the Materiality exhibition at The Handbag Factory, London (Little Buckland Gallery). My 2026 selected exhibitions include ‘Site, Surface, Substance’ at Arlington Arts, Newbury, and ‘Their War’ at the Mons Memorial Museum in Belgium.
