Mary has had a lifelong love of being immersed in ancient landscapes and wild places. Her early career was as an earth scientist. It has always had a strong influence on her work.


Mary particularly enjoys exploring contrasts of colour and light between the ancient solid rock and landscape, as well as the ever-changing wild energy of sea and sky.

Her approach to painting is largely intuitive and spontaneous, recalling memory, experience and emotion of special places, captured and imprinted on her mind.
